This modern tooled kit is the best available F.6 in this scale. Panel lines, as would be expected, are engraved. So long as there are no raised ejector pins fit is very good and detail out of the box is good. The example below has fairly prominent raised ejector pins which may interfere with the fit of the cockpit and intake assembly. A dremel tool or similar will make quick work of the issue.
The nose ring is a slight week spot. It is split vertically and it leaves an awkward join. For those who prefer to avoid the issue, a FOD guard for the engine intake is included. Cockpit detail, out of the box, is fairly good, relying on decals for the instrument panel and side console detail. The ejector seat is also respectable for the scale. A pilot figure is provided for those that wish to display the model inflight. The kit has full intake trunking up to the lower engine (part number 22 below). There is a blanking plate for the upper engine but you'd have to be a limbo dancing flee to have any chance of seeing the upper engine in this scale.
The only other potential issue is the fit of the wings. There might be a need to eliminate a step on the outermost part of the underside of the wing. If a step should materialise during test fitting, it is easily dealt with by thinning the reverse (mating surface) of the lower wing parts as indicated by the pencil.
The image below shows the upper wing part with the small section of wingtip that can be the cause of a step once the two wing halves are joined together. A few scrapes of a scalpel on the underwing part and a clamp will soon resolve the issue. This wing also has quite prominent raised ejector pin marks that will need to removed to aid fit.
To allow for difference between the F.2A and F.6, which share common sprue, the forward part of the ventral tank is a separate part made up of two parts (D9 and D10). Rather than joining parts D9 and D10 together and then attaching them to the complete fuselage; It is easier to join the separate halves to their respective fuselage parts and then join the vertically split fuselage together. This avoids an awkward join at the front of the ventral tanks and gives you a much easier-to-fill seam along the bottom of the ventral tank.
There are two decal options 74 Squadron in natural metal as shown on the box top and 11 Squadron in tri-tone grey. There will be plenty of left-over stencil data for the spares box once you've finished the model.
The F.6 kit is the same as the F.2A but it includes an extra sprue, shown below.
One piece undercarriage doors are included which makes an inflight model much easier. Flaps and airbrakes are also separate parts opening up further possibilities for inflight or landing dioramas.
Undercarriage is nicely detailed with subtly weighted tires.
